Quality assurance refers to mechanisms put in place to guarantee stakeholders that the education provided is fit for purpose. The mandate of the Shimabala Training Institute (SHINS) as contained in the 2021- 2025 Strategic Plan is to achieve the vision of: “A reputable institute in empowering youths with knowledge.” As such, SHINS will strive to set systems in place that will give quality outputs to stakeholders.

At SHINS, as our motto depicts, we aim to empower lives through education. One thing is true about education: it reduces ignorance and poverty. We promise to ensure that our methods of delivering the courses, the lecturing staff and support staff, the tools that we use, are all nearer to perfection so that we deliver quality services. You, our customer, we are the reason why we are in business, so expect the best services from us.

To achieve this, a team for Quality and Risk Assurance has been put in place and its chairperson is the Institute Director. The main purpose of the team is to ensure that the Institute’s academic and non-academic practices and operations are at the same level with stakeholder’s conditions. These stakeholders are relevant government authorities, students, community, lecturers, labour markets and parents. The team would also want to keep on developing a culture of quality and risk assurance.

For this reason, the institute has put in place a suggestion box so that stakeholders can help us run this institute better by pointing at what we are not doing in their best interest. The Institute intends to computerise the “student assessment of lecturing staff” so that feedback is given to management and this will help to improve teaching in the Institute.
